Sliding doors make smart use of space in this up-market residential property, which offers a fresh take on bathroom privacy.
As in any home, privacy in the bathroom is essential. In this project, however, the designer was looking to create a more flexible solution, featuring optimum natural light combined with various levels of opacity for increased privacy on demand.
To achieve the desired effect for these sliding bathroom doors, reeded switchable glass was chosen, with its vertical linear texture allowing the user to create a semi-private space. When total privacy is required, the transparent reeded glass can become entirely opaque thanks to technology from Smartglass International.
Not only does this add visual interest and retro style, but it also delivers instant privacy on demand. In fact, the polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) contained in each panel can transform from transparent to opaque in under 0.1 seconds making it the perfect tool to create light-filled private spaces such as this residential bathroom.
All it takes is an electrical current to activate the innovative smart glass characteristics. This can be triggered by a wall switch, or even via remote controls, movement sensors, light sensors or timers, depending on the user’s needs. Homeowners can also choose from numerous variations of privacy switchable glass, including colour tinted, curved, and shaped privacy glass.
