Making the most of sea views is a priority for any beachside property, which is why the architect for this Guernsey-based residence selected privacy glass from Smartglass International for use in the property’s master bathroom.

The resulting shaped glass panels have been used to create a distinctive slanted window, beautifully bisected by the sea-level horizon. This elegant solution not only delivers privacy on demand, but also maximises available light and allows residents to enjoy the dramatic sunsets afforded by this location.

Unlike curtains or blinds, which would be difficult to install in this unusual window aperture, smart glass delivers total bathroom privacy without blocking interesting architectural detail – making it perfect for this residential project, where it has been used to create an expansive environment, flooding the bathroom with light, even when opaque.

Despite the views, however, bathroom privacy is essential. Here, residents can relax, safe in the knowledge that switchable glass changes from transparent to opaque in just 0.1 seconds when required. A simple electrical current will activate the transformation, using either a wall switch, remote control, or sensors, depending on user preferences.

On-demand opacity combined with the ability to supply colour tinted, curved, and shaped privacy glass made Smartglass International the obvious choice for this exciting project, completed in 2022.

The resulting solution delivers shaped glass with optional privacy to create a dramatic feature window, free from distracting blinds or cumbersome curtains that attract dust, retain moisture, and detract from the clean lines of this sophisticated design.
