Configuration of LC & SPD SmartGlass

configuration-1
SmartGlass products are bespoke manufactured using a lamination process. At the centre of the multi-layer laminate is the electro-active LC or SPD film. This film is placed between adhesive inner layers and then placed between 2 or more glass sheets. The copper bus bar which allows electrical conductivity is generally located at the top which is where the 2 cables will exit the unit. It should be noted that framing must cover 15mm in order to hide the bus bars.

Configuration of LC & SPD Film

configuration-2
SmartGlass films are bespoke manufactured using a chemical coating process. At the centre of the multi-layer film is the electro-active LC or SPD polymer. This polymer is applied to 2 layers of clear conductive film known as ITO. Adhesive outer layers are applied to protect and encapsulate the electrical conductive film. The copper bus bar is applied usually to one side of the film before the lamination process, this allows current to enter the ITO conductive coated layer operating the polymers.
