The new endoscopy unit has two fully equipped procedure rooms, a treatment room, two-stage recovery facility and a patient and relative waiting area. The upper floors accommodate a day hospital and a general theatre.

The purpose-designed facility would free up much needed space within the hospital and provide a highly flexible healthcare facility to meet future local needs.

A recent American study by the Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Centre in Ohio found that curtains which hang between patient beds in hospitals can become contaminated with drug-resistant bacteria and may be playing a role in the spread of these germs in hospitals.

It has been proven that sheer, easily cleaned surfaces such as privacy glass are essential in hospitals in order to reduce the risks associated with the spread of HCAI.

Privacy Smartglass was specified for this project to separate treatment rooms instantly at the flick of a switch delivering privacy on demand without the use of curtains/blinds.

Two large switchable glass panels were integrated into the partition walls separating each treatment room.

When Privacy Smartglass was switched ‘on’ the body of the car went transparent, but when switched ‘off’, the smart glass turned opaque immediately to complete the illusion.

Throughout the past year, after much consultation with interior designers, architects and product specialists, we have been developing our new 2013 Smartglass samples which have been created with the end-user in mind.

A sleek low-iron sample of Privacy Smartglass rests in a simple but striking black battery-operated base. One quick press of the chrome button will switch the Smartglass from opaque to transparent. The panel will reset itself after a few seconds of inactivity or can be manually switched off using the button.

The samples are shipped in our newly-designed bespoke black foam cases and feature a 16GB USB flash drive pre-loaded with digital copies of our Smartglass book and product animation. The remainder of the digital space to be utilised at your will!

We are also delighted to announce the publication of our first book, Smartglass – Bright Thinking. This 160 paged tome features professionally photographed images from some of our more iconic past projects, including the Kempinski Grand & Ixir, Bahrain; Microsoft’s Portuguese HQ in Lisbon, and the CERN Globe of Science and Innovation in Geneva.
